How Long Should a Resume Be in 2026? (One Page vs Two)
The honest answer: as short as possible while still proving you can do the job. For most people that is one page. For some, two. Almost never three.
One page is right when…
You have under ten years of experience, you are changing careers and older roles are irrelevant, or you are applying to high-volume postings where recruiters skim. Entry-level and student resumes should always be one page — padding is more damaging than white space.
Two pages are right when…
You have 10+ years of directly relevant experience, hold certifications and licenses that must be listed (healthcare, engineering, law), or work in senior management where scope needs room. If you use two pages, put your strongest material on page one — many readers never turn the page.
What actually determines length
Relevance, not history. A resume is not your biography; it is an argument for one specific job. Cut any bullet that does not support that argument, and length usually resolves itself.
The formatting trap
Do not shrink fonts below 10pt or margins below 1.5cm to force a fit. Recruiters notice, and ATS text extraction gets less reliable. Cut content instead.
