185 Resume Action Verbs That Replace 'Responsible For'
"Responsible for managing inventory" describes a duty. "Cut inventory errors 23%" describes a result. The difference starts with the verb — and recruiters read hundreds of "responsible for" bullets a day.
If you led something
Directed, coordinated, mentored, delegated, chaired, unified, supervised, trained, coached, orchestrated. Pair with scope: "Mentored 12 new-graduate nurses."
If you built something
Designed, launched, developed, engineered, authored, established, implemented, pioneered, created, assembled. Pair with what shipped: "Launched a self-serve billing portal used by 40k customers."
If you improved something
Accelerated, streamlined, modernized, restructured, automated, simplified, upgraded, consolidated. Pair with the before/after: "Cut month-end close from 10 days to 6."
If you saved or earned money
Recovered, negotiated, reduced, generated, secured, captured, expanded. Pair with the figure: "Recovered $340k in duplicate vendor payments."
How to use them
One verb per bullet, past tense for past roles, present for current ones — and never the same verb twice in a row. If you cannot attach a number or concrete noun to the verb, the bullet probably isn't earning its line.
